The summer Comiket 94 was mostly composed of heat, but also of some relief when the clouds were blocking the sun’s powerful heat. A much welcome friend when the heat in Japan (and over the world) has been particularly high this summer. こんにちはみんなさん！

I attended Comiket 94 on its second and third day, Saturday and Sunday. To my surprise, it seemed that Sunday was the busier day. The line was still quite long by noon on Sunday, whereas on Saturday there was none at the same point. It sounded like most people were surprised about this.

Comiket happens twice a year, once in August (Summer) and once in December (Winter). Both have their pros and cons in terms of operating in the elements. The attendance of Comiket is nearly 600,000 people over three days at the Tokyo Big Sight. The two immediate subway stations are at max capacity most of the day, with cosplayers coming from all over the country.

Tokyo Big Sight is located by the waterfront on Odaiba island. The island is filled with many other areas for tourists such as Fuji TV, Diver City Mall (which is guarded by the new Gundam statue), a Ferris wheel, parks, and whole other slew of attractions. A whole day worth of stuff to see and do.

Both days I went I set out to snap photos of cosplayers and at least check out some of the artist and merchandise areas. With a convention the size of Comiket, it’s impossible to do both. There were lots of various artist areas such as dolls, jewelry, postcards, fan art, self-published cosplay photo books, etc… I did manage to pick up some free swag in addition to a few small things I bought.
