Games, games, and cosplay! That’s what the yearly Tokyo Game Show even held in Tokyo is all about! Let’s see what they had this year!

This was my second time attending TGS. It took me almost two hours to get there, and made it in line by about 10:30am. Another 30 minutes of waiting to buy tickets and waiting in line and I was in! All the games you could ever want were there~ It was like a field of electronic flowers composed of 1’s and 0’s.

My goal was to walk around and look at some of the games that were on display. There were simply far too many games to be able to play them all, but I did try out a few. One of the games required you to roll a real yoga ball in order to roll the ball in the game. It was interesting, but had some bugs to sort out.

Another game required you to flick little circles onto a screen. The objective was for you to have a bigger triangle at the end of the 5 turns than your opponent. A rather interesting take on a similar game I used to play involving flicking coins.

Some of the heavyweights in gaming at the show included the presence of Keanu Reeves whose presence I was sadly not blessed by~ Cyberpunk is one of the heavy-hitters this year, having long lines of anticipating fans wanting to grab any juicy newsbit they can suckle on.

Death Stranding, the first of its name from Kojima Productions, is a highly-anticipated game that fans have been gushing about for the last little while as well. TGS gave them something to crave on until release. Another interesting game I saw was at the Bandai booth, it was a new Dragon Ball Z game called “Kakarot”, looked like an open-world exploring game where enemies will randomly pop up for you to battle.

The other big theme this year was VR, a lot more booths were promoting it and offering games to play than last year. I didn’t get a chance to check any out, but would like to next time. Some of the waiting times seemed like a bit long for my tight schedule. VR has really been evolving into some complex with multiple different gadgets now included, special chairs, etc. to heighten your VR experience!

My other goal was to meet up with some friends and get some cosplay shots! It’s crazy how small the cosplay area is compared to the other big cons in Tokyo. TGS could stand to provide some more desperately-needed cosplay space for the numerous cosplayers who attend the con. The cosplay area, along with the north building are usually the last places I visit on my tour of the cons in the building (NikoNiko Chokaigi being the other), so it’s around 3 or so by the time I get there. So much to do and see, it’s difficult to fit it into just 6/7 hours!
